Based on the 21st Century Institute for Theatre Research "Development of Research and Study Methodologies in Theatre", the centre has proposed a Global COE programme entitled "International Institute for Education and Research in Theatre and Film Arts". We intend to divide the research fields in the following manner and carry out research that covers them all.

The centre has more than two hundred researchers: in addition to twenty-five programme members, the centre consists of Global COE associate fellows selected from among applicants regardless of their nationality and affiliation, and professors at Waseda University, as well as from other universities who support the programme. The six courses listed above carry out a number of projects covering virtually every sphere of theatre studies and film studies.
The organisation is run by the programme members themselves under the leadership of the president of Waseda University and the programme leader. The research committee, the budget committee, the personnel committee, and the editorial committee are set up as advisory committees, with a monthly meeting of programme members. These committees help to ensure the sound management of the centre. With the cooperation of the Graduate School of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, and the Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum in Waseda University, a Global COE office has been established to support the management. Furthermore, an external assessment committee consisting of external intellectuals is to be created. Its objective assessments will serve as valuable feedback to the future activities of our centre.
