| 概要 | 「シェイクスピアはカトリック教徒であった。」近年、なぜこのような主張が顕著に みられるようになったのかを探っていく。また、『ハムレット』を例に、シェイクスピアが、 清教徒、ユダヤ教徒、懐疑論なども含めた宗教という問題をどのように扱っていた のかを検討し、シェイクスピアの時代の演劇と宗教論争との関わりを考えていく。 現代を代表するシェイクスピア学者として50年以上活躍し続けてきたベヴィングトン氏の 話を直接聞くことのできる、またとない貴重な講演会を、お見逃しなく。 使用言語：英語 Why has there been a vigorous move of late to enlist Shakespeare as a Catholic? In exploring the factors urging such a choice, this lecture will examine how Hamlet plays into this debate. Also, by locating where Shakespeare appears to stand on other religious issues, having to do with Puritans, Jews and sceptical ideas, the lecture will question whether Shakespeare’s theatre lends itself to polemic or to debating the contested values of rival claims.
